Yes, sexual assault is a crime. The institution is bound under the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) to make a report to the Police in many cases of serious offences, including sexual assault. In addition to criminal penalties, students found in breach of the Student Academic and Non-academic Procedure may face institutional consequences such as fines, suspension, or expulsion.
