Common Questions
Entry into NICA requires an application via Swinburne University of Technology, followed by an audition, interview and medical assessment. Prospective students must apply to audition. Applicants who cannot travel to audition venues may apply by video. NICA is recognised nationally and internationally as a centre for excellence in training and is a member of Arts8 — the national elite performing arts training organisations. It is accredited as a full member of the Fédération Européenne des Écoles de Cirque Professionnelles (Federation of European Professional Circus Schools), is the South East Asian training partner for Cirque du Soleil, and has strategic alliances with the Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe, Shanghai Circus School, Belfast Community Circus and Taiwan National Academy of Performing Arts.
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Circus Arts requires students to complete units of study to the value of 300 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated, with the exception of the Circus Specialisation Showcase unit (BCA30026), which is valued at 25.0 credit points. The course consists of 23 core units over 3 years full time.
For 2026, the yearly tuition fee is approximately $17,680 AUD, with a total course fee of approximately $53,040 AUD. These fees are estimates only and are subject to change based on individual circumstances at enrolment. Domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place may be eligible for HECS-HELP, with the domestic total fee listed as $32,400. A Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of $365 also applies.
Graduates will develop transferable skills including the ability to work safely, independently and collaboratively; research, analyse and evaluate ideas; interpret, communicate and present ideas; and present elite performances in contemporary circus arts. Career opportunities include working as an independent artist, as a member of an ensemble, or pursuing a career in the national and global circus arts industry.
