Bachelor of Commerce

The Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting (BCOMM) is a three-year, on-campus degree at Adelaide City Campus building the technical accounting skills needed to prepare and interpret financial reports, covering accounting information systems and their role in organisational strategy and decision-making.

Alongside core commerce courses shared across all Bachelor of Commerce majors (giving students a broad grounding in business structures and accounting principles), students take major-specific coursework in financial accounting, management accounting, corporate accounting, contemporary issues in accounting, auditing, and taxation — including the application of income tax and capital gains tax concepts. The degree also covers the ethical, social and environmental dimensions of accounting practice, alongside the professional judgement required in real accounting decisions.

In second and third year, students complete more than 300 hours of work-integrated learning through placements alongside accounting professionals in their chosen industry, giving direct exposure to professional practice before graduation. Career paths span traditional financial accounting and auditing roles through to more specialised work such as fraud investigation, government financial reporting, or managing the financial side of events and organisations across the corporate, social and community sectors.
