Common Questions
The course takes 5 years full-time or part-time equivalent. You complete two in-demand degrees in just five years — two fewer than if you completed them separately. You may also be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track your degree.
In the Commerce component, you can choose from the following majors: accounting, economics, finance, financial planning, human resource management, management, management information systems, and marketing. Note that accounting and financial planning are the recommended pathways to qualify for membership of relevant professional organisations.
The lowest selection rank ATAR (based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers, including relevant adjustment factors) varies by campus: 90.10 for Burwood (Melbourne), 84.30 for Waterfront (Geelong), and 84.85 for Online. Deakin Guaranteed ATARs are 80 (Burwood), 74 (Waterfront), and 75 (Online) for eligible students. An unadjusted ATAR of at least 50 is the minimum to be considered.
Students have multiple opportunities for practical legal experience, including the Deakin Law Clinic (supporting real community cases), the mooting program, a Community Legal Internship, and Legal Professional Practice units. Students must complete at least one of the following as one of their Law Elective units: Legal Professional Practice (MLL338), Community Legal Internship (MLL351), Deakin Law Clinic (MLL420), or Mooting and Advocacy (MLL460).
The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waterfront (Geelong), and Online. Trimester 1 (March start) is available at all three locations. Trimester 2 (July start) is also available at all three locations. Trimester 3 (November start) is available at Burwood (Melbourne) and Online only. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close 21 June 2026, and for Trimester 3 2026 close 18 October 2026.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
