About This Course

Honours in a business subject area is one year of full-time study commencing in semester one only and comprises two main components – a thesis and coursework. The thesis is a 20,000-word research-based dissertation on a topic in which you will have a strong intellectual interest. You will investigate an area that makes a relevant contribution to and extends the existing body of knowledge in that area. The quality of the research design, development of the research question, application of appropriate methodologies and interpretation of findings, and your ability to effectively communicate your research are assessed in the thesis. Coursework focuses on research philosophy, methods, and design to support your completion of the thesis. Throughout the course, you will develop advanced discipline and research knowledge and skills, critical analysis and problem-solving capabilities, and written and oral communication abilities.

You must submit a complete application to be considered for entry.
Honours commences in semester one only – there is no mid-year intake.
You should only nominate a second preferred honours subject area if you genuinely wish to be considered for that honours subject area should you be unsuccessful with your first preferred honours subject area.
If you have completed a non-commerce undergraduate degree then please refer to faculty and school programs – business for information lodging your application.
Offers cannot be deferred. If you receive an offer but wish to then be considered for a later intake then you will need to reapply for the intake in question and it is not guaranteed that you will receive an offer again.
If you wish to pursue honours immediately following your undergraduate degree then you will need to apply during the final semester of your undergraduate degree.
You will need to ensure you complete all requirements for your undergraduate degree during that final semester to ensure you are awarded your undergraduate degree in time for offers.
You should not plan to complete requirements for your undergraduate degree in the same calendar year you are seeking to commence honours.
