Bachelor of Communication Design

The Bachelor of Communication Design teaches students to share information visually using cutting-edge techniques, tools and technology across disciplines, guided by industry experts including brand consultants, graphic designers and creative directors. The course covers the theory and practice of information design, from initial concepts through to finished visuals, spanning both print and digital design. Students explore strategic thinking, brand strategy, packaging design, storytelling, customer experience design and service design, along with sustainability in design, UI and UX design, and design thinking methodologies. A broad choice of electives allows students to build a cross-disciplinary skillset and follow their own interests, whether studying on campus or online, with real-world challenges tackled through problem-based and work-integrated learning. Learning outcomes include exploring typography, image generation and information design; packaging and branded environment design for end-user needs; refining strategic thinking and brand development skills; creating messages for a range of audiences; and applying theoretical and technical knowledge to real-world problems. The course includes 120 hours of experience through an internship or live brief.

The course is recognised by the Design Institute of Australia, and Torrens University has partnered with industry leaders including Vogue Australia to offer internship, mentoring and scholarship opportunities, alongside a free Adobe Creative Cloud Pro licence for the duration of study and six months post-graduation. This AQF Level 7 course is delivered online, on campus or in blended mode across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and online, over three years full-time or six years part-time, by Torrens University Australia Ltd trading as Billy Blue College of Design.
