Common Questions
Students in the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) will have the opportunity to create journalism that is broadcast or published in the City Journal (the degree's newspaper), Channel 31 (live television news), and RRR (live radio news). In third year, you will work in a multimedia newsroom producing print, online, and broadcast journalism in a deadline-driven environment that mirrors industry practice.
In your third year you will undertake a journalism work placement that has been individually designed to meet your career aspirations. Overseas internships may also be available. Internships and work placements form an important part of the experience and will help you develop connections to the industry while you study.
In addition to core journalism subjects, you complete a minor specialisation from one of the following areas: Approaches to Popular Culture, Asian Media and Culture, Cinema Studies, Contemporary Politics and Communication, or Literary Studies. You will also select four subjects from a wide range of school and university electives depending on your career and personal interests.
Yes, the Jacob and Charlotte Kahane Scholarship is available for students enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) program and is worth up to $30,000. RMIT awards more than 2,000 scholarships every year to recognise academic achievement and assist students from a variety of backgrounds.
RMIT offers purpose-built, world-class facilities including fully equipped audio and television studios where students learn in industry-standard environments. Industry representatives inform the continuous development of the degree through an Industry Advisory Committee (IAC), with membership including senior representatives from ABC, Nine Media, SBS, The Conversation, RMIT ABC Fact Check, the Shepparton News, and News Corporation. RMIT is also ranked #6 in Australia and top 100 in the world for Media & Communication (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026).

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
