Common Questions
In the Bachelor of Communications & Media component, you will complete a Major in journalism, film and screen production, or photography. You can then complete a second Major in one of these three areas or a Minor, or a second Major or Minor from a range of humanities, science, and social science disciplines. For the Bachelor of Arts component, Arts Majors include English Literature, Social Justice, Politics and International Relations, History, Archaeology, Theatre Studies, Journalism and Film and Screen Production.
You need to complete a total of 32 courses, comprising 2 Core Curriculum courses, 1 Academic Writing, Communication & Research course, 2 compulsory Communications & Media courses, 2 elective Communications & Media courses, 8 Communications & Media Major courses, 8 Arts Major courses, and 8 elective courses (which can be used to form another Major or a Minor plus 2 electives).
While not a requirement, internship courses and work-integrated learning opportunities are available to enable you to gain on-the-job experience with professionals in your chosen field. You will learn from academics who are industry leaders and, through practicum placements and internship programs, you will gain real professional experience and make valuable contacts with potential employers.
The Bachelor of Communications & Media / Bachelor of Arts is offered on campus at both the Fremantle and Sydney campuses. Students can commence in either Semester 1 or Semester 2.
For WA applicants with recent secondary education, the indicative ATAR/Selection Rank (which includes ATAR plus Adjustment Factors) is 70, or an International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 25. There are also alternative entry pathways for applicants with higher education, VET study, or work and life experience.
