About This Course

The Bachelor of Computer Science (C2001) equips students with problem-solving, programming and analytical skills, covering computational theory, algorithms and data structures with practical programming implementation. Students choose one of four specialisations: Algorithms and Software (Clayton, Malaysia), Artificial Intelligence (Clayton, Malaysia), Cybersecurity (Clayton), or Data Science (Clayton, Malaysia). The course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and is ranked #2 in Australia for Computer Science (Times Higher Education Rankings by Subject 2025) and in the global top 50 for Data Science and AI (QS World University Rankings 2025). It can also be taken as a double degree with Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Business and Commerce.

The course is designed for students who wish to study computing in depth. Computer science is the theory and practice of applying computers and software to problem-solving. Its practical applications span all disciplines including science, engineering, business and commerce, creative and performing arts and the humanities. You will learn how to think like a computer scientist about processes and their descriptions. This will enable you to design algorithms (instructions for computers) and data structures (ways to store information). You will also acquire practical programming skills to implement these in efficient software that solves real-world problems. The course provides strong foundations in the theory of computation and its connection to mathematics.

Domestic: - Selection is ATAR-based (Clayton): 2026 lowest selection rank to which an offer was made was 80.15; lowest ATAR to which an offer was made in 2026 was 70.15; the Monash Guarantee threshold for 2026 entry is 80. - Prerequisite subjects required: English and Mathematics (Science/Other is not required). - Available Full Time or Part Time (6 years part time). International: - Minimum age: at least 17 years of age at time of enrolment. - Prerequisite subjects required: English and Mathematics (Science/Other is not required). - English language requirements (Level A): overall score 6.5 for IELTS (Academic), with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0 (or equivalent approved English test scores). - Study mode: Full Time only (visa condition).
