About This Course

Develop a range of specialist skills in science and computer science which will lead to a career in scientific programming or scientific management. Throughout the Bachelor of Computer Science, you will study the theoretical foundations of computer science and IT, with the opportunity to specialise in a major. In your final year you will develop your own application as part of a team project developing solutions to real-world problems provided by our industry partners. The Bachelor of Science offers flexibility with the opportunity to begin your specialisation immediately, if you have decided on your major, or in second year after completing foundational subjects in first year. You will participate in practical classes in our purpose-built Sciences Teaching Facility, and you will complete an industry-linked research project tackling real problems. A double degree at UOW provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately. Having a double degree will give you a competitive advantage in a crowded job market.

Requirements

Minimum Selection Rank: 75 (ATAR-SR or IB Combined Rank plus any eligible adjustments)
Assumed Knowledge: Any two units of English and Mathematics Advanced
Recommended Studies: Mathematics Extension 1 and any four units of Science; students who have not completed any science subjects in the HSC (or equivalent) are strongly encouraged to enrol in bridging courses offered in February each year
Recent Secondary Education: Admission based on ATAR or IBAS; other accepted qualifications include GCE A-Levels, New Zealand NCEA Level 3, and comparable overseas senior secondary qualifications
Higher Education Study: At least half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a Bachelor's degree level or higher; applicants must have previously studied in the areas of Natural and Physical Sciences, or Information Technology or Engineering
VET Study: Minimum AQF Certificate IV; applicants must have previously studied in the areas of Natural and Physical Sciences, or Information Technology or Engineering
Work and Life Experience: Admission is primarily based on academic qualifications; work or life experience is generally not considered
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants: May apply via UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP)
English Language Proficiency: Must meet UOW's English Language Requirements if English is not your first language; accepted tests include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET
Early Admission: Available for students planning to study immediately after finishing HSC, IB, or interstate equivalent
