Common Questions
Students can choose from the following major sequences: Computational Mathematics, Data Science, Internet of Things, and Robotics. Available minor sequences include Computational Mathematics, Cloud Technologies, Embedded Systems, Full Stack Development, Game Design, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and Information Technologies. Students can combine majors and minors but cannot count more than two units in common towards multiple sequences, and where a major and minor share the same title, students cannot undertake both.
Yes, this course includes a compulsory work placement with an approved host organisation. Work Integrated Learning units such as IT Placements and Industry Experience (SIT306) and Professional Practice (SIT344) are offered as capstone options in Year 3, providing opportunities to develop professional networks and work practices. Placement can occur at any time, including during standard holiday breaks.
In Year 4, students complete research training capstone units totalling 4 credit points. In Trimester 1, students undertake Research Techniques and Applications (SIT723, 2 credit points). In Trimester 2, students choose between Research Project (SIT724, 2 credit points) or Research Project (Advanced) (SIT746, 2 credit points), with entry to SIT746 subject to specific unit entry requirements.
Students will be required to purchase minor equipment such as small single board computers, microcontrollers and sensors, which will be used within a range of units in this course. The indicative cost of this equipment is AUD$500. Access to high cost specialist equipment, such as robots, is provided by the university. Equipment requirements and details of suppliers will be provided on a per-unit basis.
The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne) and Online. Trimester 1 (March start) and Trimester 2 (July start) are available at both Burwood (Melbourne) and Online. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
