About This Course

Accelerate your career with a future-focused double degree that combines a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Master of Data Science, completed in just four years full-time. The program provides strong technical foundations in software development, data analytics, programming, machine learning and cloud computing, while immersing you in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins and quantum computing. You also develop expertise in responsible innovation, with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity, digital trust and the ethical design of technology. Beyond technical excellence, the program fosters the professional capabilities needed to lead in complex, dynamic environments and to develop solutions that deliver meaningful social impact across industries and communities.

The double degree requires 320 credit points: 240 credit points from the Bachelor of Computer Science, made up of 170 credit points of computer science specified units, a 10 credit point community engagement unit, 20 credit points of Core Curriculum units and 40 credit points of elective units, plus 80 credit points of specified data science units from the Master of Data Science. Students must complete 200 credit points of the bachelor degree and achieve a minimum GPA of 5.0 to commence study in the master degree.

The community engagement unit engages students with communities experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation, for example by working with social enterprises or a not-for-profit organisation, and allows students to explore their ethics and empathy and apply digital literacies, communication skills, technical skills and judgement. A student who has successfully completed the Bachelor of Computer Science requirements may exit with that qualification. The course is offered at ACU's North Sydney campus over four years full-time.

General Requirements

Domestic students

  • Applicants must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement.
  • To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:
    • New South Wales: Assumed knowledge: English (Standard) (Band 2) or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) (Band 3); assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced.
  • Indicative ATAR: 70.00 (North Sydney)
  • Applicants with higher education study must still meet the minimum entry requirements and subject prerequisites. Applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above are assigned a new selection rank reflecting their study level, duration and grade point average, and prior study or relevant work experience may attract credit or recognition of prior learning.
