About This Course

This course will equip you with high-level knowledge of computer systems and processes involved in software development and maintenance. You will study aspects of modern computing, commencing with fundamental programming and theoretical knowledge. You'll then tailor your degree to your goals by choosing to study a major in Computer Science, Cyber Security or Software Engineering. You'll use C and Java as the tools for learning core concepts such as object orientation and algorithms. Linux skills are taught throughout the course, starting with the basics and progressing to advanced topics. Curtin collaborates with industry partners to optimise course content and provide final-year placement opportunities to suitable students.

Prerequisite subjects:
- Computer Science, Cyber Security majors: Mathematics Methods (essential)
- Software Engineering major: Mathematics Applications (essential); Mathematics Methods (desirable)
Mathematics Applications prerequisite can be met with one of: MATH1014 Foundations of Calculus, MATH1015 Linear Algebra, MATH1016 Calculus 1, MATH1019 Linear Algebra and Statistics for Engineers, MATH1020 Calculus for Engineers, MATH1021 Accelerated Mathematics for Engineers
Mathematics Methods prerequisite can be met with one of: MATH1014 Foundations of Calculus; MATH1015 Linear Algebra AND MATH1016 Calculus 1; MATH1020 Calculus for Engineers; MATH1021 Accelerated Mathematics for Engineers
Curtin course switcher: Achieved an ATAR of 80 or higher, OR completed a minimum of 100 credit points with at least 75 credit points in Computing-related units in the semester prior to switching, and completed either COMP1005 Fundamentals of Programming or COMP1007 Programming Design and Implementation, AND met the subject prerequisites for your chosen major
Higher education course switcher: Achieved an ATAR of 80 or higher AND met the subject prerequisites for your chosen major
VET/TAFE pathway: AQF Diploma or AQF Advanced Diploma AND met the subject prerequisite
STAT is not accepted as an entry pathway, but may be used to demonstrate English language proficiency

Can I transfer to an honours degree after completing part of this course?

Yes. Bachelor of Computing students who perform well in their first year can apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Computing) honours degree course, though acceptance is not automatic.

The Bachelor of Computing is offered on campus at Curtin Perth and Curtin Singapore. At Curtin Perth, intakes are available in Semester 1 and Semester 2 of the 2026 academic year. The course is three years full-time and can also be studied part-time.
