Common Questions
All applicants, whether domestic or international, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum UNSW English Language Requirements. This can be demonstrated through recognised English language tests (such as IELTS or Pearson), prior study in the medium of English, or other accepted qualifications. You must confirm with your testing authority that UNSW has permission to view and verify your test results.
When lodging your application via UNSW Apply Online, you can indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship and select the scholarship round for your preferred term start date. UNSW has multiple scholarship application rounds per year for both domestic and international applicants, with specific deadlines for each term intake. Scholarship recipients must accept or defer their unconditional offers within 2 weeks of receiving them.
Yes, HDR applicants can request to defer for up to one year after the initial offer term. UNSW HDR Scholarship offers may be deferred on a case-by-case basis (check your scholarship letter for details). Deferrals are only approved where conditions are met, including continuing to meet UNSW entry requirements and availability of supervision and resources. If you have a conditional offer, email the relevant admissions office; if you have an unconditional offer, log in to Accept Online to request a deferral.
You must prepare supporting documentation as outlined in the UNSW Document Submission Guidelines. This includes evidence of English language proficiency, academic transcripts, a Research Plan, a Financial Declaration Form (for international applicants), and any documents required by your specific Faculty or School. Documents in a language other than English must be translated by a NAATI-accredited translator. Scanned copies may be submitted initially, but you must be prepared to present original documents upon request prior to enrolment.
Applications may take around a week to come through the Apply Online system to the student system, and longer during high-peak periods such as around scholarship deadlines. For applicants with alternative funding (not a UNSW scholarship), the admission outcome typically takes 6–8 weeks to process. Scholarship outcomes are released on specific dates depending on the scholarship round applied for. You can track the progress of your application through your UNSW Apply Online account.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
