About This Course

Construction Management Studies at Western mixes work experience with study resulting in theoretical, practical and hands-on knowledge that is greatly valued in the construction industry. Your studies will include practical experiments in building technology such as acoustics, heat flow through a building, corrosion of materials, concerete testing and more. The skills you develop will then be used during your 1,200 hours of approved practical experience during the duration of the program. The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills. The program provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement, and international exchange engagements. Together, Construction Management Studies and Laws give you a highly marketable career path with career opportunities in both disciplines. This program is designed for high-achieving law students in the Bachelor of Construction Management Studies/Bachelor of Laws program who wish to undertake an extended level of study and research in law.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Tertiary Education: 1. Achievement of a threshold admission average mark (AAM) of at least 70; and 2. Submission of Research Proposal; and 3. Availability and appointment of a principal supervisor by the Dean of the School; and 4. Students must have successfully passed 160 Law subject credit points at the time of applying for the honours program. Students are encouraged to consult with the School Honours Coordinator to assess their eligibility for admission and seek advice if they do not meet the pre-requisites.
