The course includes 200 hours of Work Integrated Learning (WIL). Local placements are not guaranteed — SCU considers your residential address but may allocate placements that require travel. You are responsible for organising and covering travel, accommodation, and related costs. Before attending placement, you must meet mandatory compliance requirements including immunisations, mask-fit testing, First Aid and CPR certification, and National Police Certificate checks.

Yes, the course is available online as well as on-campus at the Gold Coast. The online study option is highly interactive and may include podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. Note that some units require online students to attend on-campus residentials (e.g., a 2-day residential for Counselling Skills 1 and a 3-day residential for Counselling Theory and Practice).
To be eligible to receive the Bachelor of Counselling, students must complete the equivalent of 24 units (288 credit points) comprising 20 core units (264 credit points) and 2 option units (24 credit points).
Graduates can follow diverse career paths in the private and public sectors, including roles as youth workers, trauma counsellors, drug and alcohol counsellors, private practice counsellors, and family counsellors.
