About This Course

If you are inspired to create and you want to build a career in the Arts, the Bachelor of Creative Arts is for you. This course develops confident, adaptable thinkers through hands-on learning, and you’ll get to learn about your discipline’s historical and theoretical contexts to prepare you for the changing world of contemporary arts and culture. In your first year, you choose a major from our suite: Creative Writing, Music, Performance and Theatre, Visual Arts, or Visual Arts and Design. You study in purpose-built facilities including industry-standard music recording studios, painting and textile studios, art galleries, and performance theatres. In this shared and vibrant environment, you are supported to collaborate across disciplines and foster creative exchanges. Throughout your degree, you learn alongside talented peers, and are guided by award-winning artists , published authors, professional musicians and composers, renowned performers and playwrights to engage in real-world projects that connect your creative ventures with communities and audiences. This access to industry experience ensures your learning is current, relevant, and connected to the professional world. You have opportunities to expand your perspective through international exchange and internships, supporting local and global career pathways. The elective stream of the degree will also allow you to broaden your studies across UOW. This course structure lets you build expertise in your chosen major within this degree, whilst giving you the flexibility to broaden your studies or specialise further through a second major, a minor, or elective subjects. From your first class, you will start building foundational knowledge in your chosen fields. In the creative arts core subjects, you learn collaboratively with your peers on how creative arts work, from project development and funding to audience engagement and the role of creative work in shaping culture, community and social change. The degree will strengthen your critical thinking, communication skills, and ability to apply creative solutions across a range of professional contexts. In your chosen major, you develop creative and technical skills, confidence, and practical knowledge through the making and presentation of original works as performances, exhibitions, concerts, and publications for public audiences. Work-integrated learning is central to your study. You produce and present your projects in collaborative, professional environments, working with industry and community partners. Through collaboration, industry engagement, internships and international opportunities, you'll develop the adaptability and professional capabilities needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The Bachelor of Creative Arts equips you with important, transferable skills that can be used throughout the creative and cultural sector, a sector which brings in over 60 billion dollars a year to Australia’s economy and offers many diverse career opportunities. Recent Secondary Education:

If you are a current high school student in Australia, or you’ve finished high school recently, your admission to UOW will likely be based on your Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) or International Baccalaureate admissions score (IBAS).

The minimum score for guaranteed entry (or for consideration if this course has limited places) is a Selection Rank of 65. Your Selection Rank is your ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any adjustments you are eligible to receive.

Overseas senior secondary qualifications comparable to Australian qualifications

Higher Education Study:

For your application to be assessed on your university results you need to have completed at least half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a Bachelor's degree level or higher. Your grades will be converted to a selection rank to be used for admission purposes. Students may also be eligible for credit for prior learning.

Work and life experience:

Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognised pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people:

UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP) offers an alternative pathway for Indigenous Australians aged 17 and over who are seeking entry into an undergraduate course at UOW. Upon completing the IAP, applicants will be considered for admission based on an interview and assessment of both academic and non-academic qualities. Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications:

UOW recognises a range of overseas secondary, vocational and higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course.Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation. An official English translation is a verified translation of your documents into English, completed by a qualified translator so it can be accepted as part of your application.For more information, contact the UOW Future Students Team.

English language proficiency:

All UOW courses are taught in English and require varying levels of proficiency. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, which differ by course.
Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.

Portfolio admissions:

Full-Time Study Load
As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.
Part-Time Study Load
For part-time students, study hours will vary based on the number of units taken, with similar expectations for class and independent study.

Academic Entry Requirements:

Applicants must achieve the required score in a previous qualification, equivalent to completing at least 13 years of schooling in Australia.
To succeed in your chosen course, you should have completed relevant subjects in senior high school or other qualifications. For more information, refer to UOW's Entry Requirements page.

The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program:
