Common Questions
You can major in Dance, Photography, Theatre, Visual Arts, or Writing as part of the Bachelor of Creative Arts. You may also choose a second major from the School of Communication and Creative Arts, including options such as Advertising, Animation, Communication Design, Digital and Social Media, Interactive and UX Design, Journalism, Screen Development, Public Relations, and Screen Production.
To complete the Bachelor of Creative Arts, you must pass 24 credit points. This includes DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (0-credit-point compulsory unit) in your first study period, 1 credit point of thematic core units, 3 credit points of Employability sequence units, and either two majors (8 credit points each — at least one from Creative Arts majors) or one Creative Arts major (8 credit points) plus one minor (4 credit points), with remaining credit points made up of additional minors, open electives, or a combination. A maximum of 10 credit points may be at level 1, and a minimum of 6 credit points must be at level 3.
Students can gain real-world experience through Deakin's suite of Work Integrated Learning programs, which connect you with internships, social impact programs, and opportunities to extend your skills in settings across the globe. Deakin supports you to design your internship, with access to 600+ employers like Affirm Press and Arts of the Mind, or you can craft your own. Elective units may also provide additional opportunities for Work Integrated Learning experiences.
The Bachelor of Creative Arts is offered at Burwood (Melbourne) with intakes in Trimester 1 (starting March) and Trimester 2 (starting July). Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close 21 June 2026.
For current or recent Year 12 students, an unadjusted ATAR of at least 50 is required, along with a study score of at least 25 in English EAL or at least 20 in English other than EAL. The lowest selection rank (based on 2026 VTAC offers including adjustment factors) is 61.05, and the Deakin Guaranteed ATAR is 52. For English language proficiency, you need an IELTS overall score of 6.0 (with no band score less than 6.0) or equivalent, or a VCE English study score of 25 in EAL or 20 in any other English.
