Compositing
Digital compositing is the process of combining visual elements into cohesive still and moving images and is integral for any post-production facility. Students are introduced to key areas in compositing, moving from separating and combining still images, to working with complex transparency, camera movement and computer-generated images. These scaffolded weekly projects prepare students for a proposal and project completed in a para-professional studio environment.

Internship
By application only. Aims to provide students with an internship opportunity that has sound educational value and provides students the chance to initiate and/or develop relationships with professionals in their discipline. Students will reflect upon their awareness of applying theory to practice during their internship, practicing their ability to evaluate situations, critical thinking, and effective communication of their decision-making.
E-Portfolio
Designed to formally recognise students' creative work generated outside of on-campus learning. Students will have access to an e-portfolio as a presentation mode for the assessable items. The unit is placed during the final study period.
Common Questions
Students can specialise in 2D or 3D animation, plus either Production Art or Computer Graphics, allowing them to develop advanced skills and refine their unique style.
The course is taught and mentored by industry professionals with experience at studios such as Netflix Animation, Flying Bark and Rising Sun Pictures. Lecturers include Sean Callinan, who has worked in production design and animation across film and television; Tim McEwen, who draws on experience in feature film storyboards and concept art for productions like Happy Feet Two and Blinky Bill; and Az Valastro, a Game Developer and Artist who previously studied Game Design at JMC Academy.
Graduates will have a professional showreel showcasing their creative style and technical expertise, industry-ready skills to work in animation, visual effects, and digital content creation, and the confidence to launch their own projects in Australia's expanding animation industry.
The course is offered at JMC Academy's Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney campuses, with intake dates in February, June, and September each year.
Career outcomes include roles such as 2D/3D Animator, Concept Artist, 2D and 3D Asset Creator, Technical Artist, Storyboard and Pre-visualisation Artist, and VFX Compositor — working across entertainment, advertising, and immersive media.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
