Common Questions
The course includes a compulsory core IT placement unit where you will undertake professional work experience with an approved host organisation. You may also have the opportunity to apply for a placement with partner organisations including NAB and ANZ. Additionally, you will have access to a specialised capstone project and co-working space where you will collaborate with teammates on real-world industry problems and learn agile project management methods.
The Bachelor of Cyber Security is available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waurn Ponds (Geelong), and Online. Intakes are available in Trimester 1 (starting March) and Trimester 2 (starting July) across all three locations. The course can be studied full-time or part-time over 3 years.
Students will be required to purchase minor equipment such as small single board computers, microcontrollers and sensors, which will be used within a range of units. This equipment is also usable beyond your studies. The indicative cost of this equipment for this course is AUD$500. Equipment requirements and details of suppliers will be provided on a per-unit basis.
Yes. The Bachelor of Cyber Security is available as a combined course with criminology (D380 Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Cyber Security) or laws (D397 Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Cyber Security). Deakin states you can earn two degrees faster at the #1 Victorian university for graduate employment, saving time, reducing costs, and unlocking more career opportunities.
For current or recent Year 12 students, you need a study score of at least 25 in English EAL or at least 20 in English other than EAL, and an unadjusted ATAR of at least 50. The lowest selection rank based on 2026 VTAC offers is 64.45 (Burwood), 64.25 (Waurn Ponds), and 64.00 (Online). A Deakin Guaranteed ATAR of 55 (Burwood/Waurn Ponds) or 54 (Online) is available for eligible students. Higher education applicants need at least two completed bachelor-level units, and VET applicants need a Certificate IV or higher in a related discipline, or a Diploma or higher in any discipline.
