To complete the Bachelor of Cyber Security (Honours), you must pass 32 credit points. This includes DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (0-credit-point compulsory unit), STP010 Career Tools for Employability (0-credit-point compulsory unit), 13 credit points of core units, 3 credit points of cyber security capstone units, 4 credit points of cyber security research training capstone units, and 12 credit points which may comprise of minors and/or open elective units. You will also complete an honours research project in your final year.
The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waurn Ponds (Geelong), and Online. It is offered in Trimester 1 (starting March) and Trimester 2 (starting July) at all three locations.
Yes, this course includes a compulsory work placement with an approved host organisation to take your learning beyond the classroom and prepare you to be work and career ready. You can also undertake a professional placement or work in teams with an industry partner to tackle authentic business challenges as part of a capstone project. Work Integrated Learning units provide you with the opportunity to develop your professional networks and work practices while completing your degree.
Yes, students will be required to purchase minor equipment, such as small single board computers, microcontrollers and sensors, which will be used within a range of units in this course. The indicative cost of this equipment for this course is AUD$500. Equipment requirements and details of suppliers will be provided on a per-unit basis.
The lowest selection rank varies by campus: at Waurn Ponds (Geelong), the lowest selection rank is 66.80 ATAR (based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers), with a Deakin Guaranteed ATAR of 57. At Burwood (Melbourne) and Online, the ATAR is listed as 'unpublished', meaning the course is available but the lowest selection rank is not available. The Deakin Guaranteed ATAR is 65 at Burwood and 60 Online. All applicants from current or recent secondary education also need a minimum unadjusted ATAR of 50 and a study score of at least 25 in English EAL or at least 20 in English other than EAL.
