Propel yourself towards success with a career that perfectly aligns to industry demand. Learn how to identify, organise and analyse big data with Victoria University's Bachelor of Data Science. In this data science degree, you'll learn to use specialised computational and statistical techniques to analyse big data and generate insights to tackle complex problems. These are pivotal skills for the 21st century, designed to meet the strong demand for data science professionals. With industry-focused practices, real-world datasets, and hands-on tools, you will develop an in-depth understanding of deep learning, data management, data mining, and decision making. Throughout your study, you will learn how to wrangle, analyse, visualise, predict, and find insights into data to solve a host of real-world problems. The Bachelor of Data Science is provisionally accredited at a professional level by the Australian Computer Society .

Victoria University degrees are internationally recognised and help you find a satisfying career within and outside Australia. Our Bachelor of Data Science fosters a culture of practical experience through summer internships and final-year projects. Each year, 50 students within the IT program will be offered paid summer internships , in collaboration with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (VCCI) and SMEs. The program has also established fractional FTE opportunities across various industry partners, such as Western Health (WH), VU ITS, and Her Creation Squad, among others. Each internship is guided by a supervisor from the IT program and a mentor from the industry, ensuring a seamless and professional learning experience through these placements. Students leverage their data analysis and data management skills to devise real-world solutions through a final year applied Project units NEF3001 and NEF3002.

General Requirements

Domestic students:

Applicants with recent secondary education: Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English. PLUS: A study score of at least 20 in Mathematics (any).
Applicants with vocational education & training (VET/TAFE) study: Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent). OR: Completion of the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (or equivalent)
Applicants with higher education study: Full or partial completion of an Australian Higher Education award (or equivalent). OR: Completion of two units of Higher Education studies, at least one must be in Mathematics. OR: Completion of a bridging or enabling course eg. Foundation course or equivalent.
Applicants with work & life experience: Five years (minimum) work/life experience in Information Technology or similar. OR: Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate more than two years ago. PLUS: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English (or equivalent). AND: A study score of at least 20 in Mathematics (any) (or equivalent).

International students:

Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English (or equivalent). PLUS: A study score of at least 20 in Mathematics (any). OR: Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent). PLUS: IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score or 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). OR: Completion of a Foundation course or equivalent.
