Common Questions
All Bachelor of Design students are required to complete at least one major from the Design majors, which include Communication Design and Interactive and UX Design. Students may also choose a second major from School of Communication and Creative Arts major sequences such as Advertising, Animation, Dance, Digital and Social Media, Journalism, Photography, Screen Development, Public Relations, Screen Production, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Writing.
To complete the Bachelor of Design, you must pass 24 credit points, which includes a 0-credit-point compulsory module (DAI001), 1 credit point of Thematic core unit, 3 credit points of Employability sequence units, and either 2 majors (8 credit points each) or 1 major plus 1 minor, with remaining credit points made up of additional minors or open elective units.
Deakin offers a range of Work Integrated Learning programs that can connect you with internships, social impact programs, and opportunities to extend your skills in settings across the globe. You will be supported by Deakin to design your internship, with the choice from 600+ employers or the option to craft your own. You will also have opportunities to network with industry and share your designs with the public.
The Bachelor of Design is available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waurn Ponds (Geelong), and Online. You can commence in Trimester 1 (starting March) or Trimester 2 (starting July) at all three locations. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close on 21 June 2026.
The lowest selection rank ATAR based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers is 60.00 for Burwood (Melbourne) and 60.55 for Waurn Ponds (Geelong), while the Online location has an unpublished ATAR. Eligible students may qualify for Deakin's Guaranteed ATAR, which is 50 for Burwood and Waurn Ponds and 55 for Online. The unadjusted minimum ATAR for consideration is 50.
