Bachelor of Design and Technology

Gain practical experience with the University’s own state-of-the-art technologies and access to an extensive network of external industry-based resources where you will gain industry networks. During your final year or at the conclusion of your study, you will undertake a 10-week industry experience session, giving you priceless real-life experience in developing new products within a company or organisational environment. Additionally, upon graduation you are eligible for membership to the Design Institute of Australia (DIA). The Design and Technology degree is a catalyst for innovation in product design, service design and design for sustainability helping you develop a multidisciplinary approach mindset which is highly valued by employers. You will study a program that responds to the varying needs of integrated design for communities, industry, entrepreneurial pursuits and design education. Learn a broad range of work-ready design skills including design thinking methods, drawing skills for creativity, design innovation, product design, human factors design, design management and 2D and 3D CAD using the latest internationally recognised software. The program offers access to the extensive Design Studio and Advanced Prototyping Workshop facilities ensuring you have the best opportunity to provide great solutions while working collaboratively in teams and with clients on industry projects. You will be prepared for multiple career outcomes, including product design, packaging, 3D modelling, rapid prototyping with 3D printing, design for sustainability or new product-oriented venture start-ups. You can also move on to secondary school teaching with additional WSU qualifications in Master of Teaching (Secondary). This course is held at the Parramatta Engineering Innovation Hub.
