Common Questions
To progress into the Master of Architecture level of studies, students must have completed all 24 credit points of the undergraduate course and achieve a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65. Students achieving a WAM between 55 and 64 have the opportunity to submit a portfolio of relevant work and personal statement for consideration to potentially progress into the master level of studies. A WAM of less than 55 results in an alternative exit with the award S342 Bachelor of Design (Architecture).
You will have access to Deakin's extensive a+b studio, which is an inspiring open-plan space that enables collaborative work and project development. You will also have access to a purpose-built workshop where 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers and traditional tools and machinery are available for fabricating models and experimenting with technology, materials and processes. Dedicated Computer Labs are also available, and where possible, all required software (Autodesk, Adobe) is provided to students under free academic licencing.
Students will be required to purchase minor equipment such as drawing media, paperstock, sketchbooks, and model making tools. The indicative cost of equipment and materials over the course duration can vary depending on quality or execution, but can be suggested in the range of $750–$1500 over the course duration. Students are also recommended to have access to a personal computer (laptop or desktop), though Deakin has dedicated Computer Labs to get started with before committing to a purchase. Where possible, all required software is provided under free academic licencing.
The course takes 5 years full-time or part-time equivalent. To complete the degree, students must pass 40 credit points: 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Design (Architecture) and 16 credit points from the Master of Architecture. As a full-time student, you will study four credit points per trimester and usually undertake two trimesters per year. You may be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track your degree.
The Bachelor of Design (Architecture)/Master of Architecture is available at Waterfront (Geelong) with intakes in both Trimester 1 (starting March) and Trimester 2 (starting July). Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close 21 June 2026. Note that a new and revised course structure is being introduced from Trimester 2, 2026.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
