In this degree, you'll work on industry-linked briefs through Capstone projects and applied innovation studios, which can include placements, internships or industry-linked projects to bolster your CV with real experience while you study.
In Year 4, students can choose between the Industrial Design Honours Stream — which includes Methods for Design Research, Capstone: Industrial Design Major Project 1 and 2, and Professional Design Attributes — or the Design Factory Melbourne Honours Stream, which includes DFM: Design Innovation and Disruption, Project Management and Practice, Professional Attributes for Design, and DFM: Designing Futures.
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) (Honours) requires students to complete units of study to the value of 400 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.
For 2026, the yearly Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) fee is $9,537 AUD, with a total CSP fee of $38,148 AUD. The indicative total fee for international students is $45,010 AUD. Fees are estimates only and are subject to change based on individual circumstances at enrolment. A Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of $373 AUD (capped for 2026) also applies.
Throughout the Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) (Honours), you will develop skills in problem solving, idea generating, concept development, operating industry-standard CAD programs, and understanding design for manufacturing. The course also focuses on new technologies, sustainability, and the emotional impact of design.
