About This Course

Adelaide University's Bachelor of Economics gives a comprehensive and analytical understanding of how governments, industries and businesses allocate resources to meet individual and societal needs, alongside the communication and analytical skills that inform decision-making and policy development.
You develop a deep understanding of microeconomics, examining economics from an individual and business perspective, and of macroeconomics, looking at large-scale factors such as national income, employment and international trade. Econometrics teaches you to use analytical skills to understand economic data and test theories.
Common core courses in First Nations knowledges, data, ethics, artificial intelligence, cultural competency, entrepreneurship and design thinking extend your foundational knowledge, while first-year topics in economic principles, data analytics and mathematical economics begin your specialised expertise. Second year goes deeper with applied econometrics, microeconomics, macroeconomics and global economic history. In third year you undertake your own investigation in economic policy analysis and explore courses in applied economics.
A wide range of economics electives is available, including behavioural economics, economic growth and development, economics of international finance and trade, financial economics, game theory, labour economics, monetary economics, public economics, resource and environmental economics, rethinking capitalism, and using big data for economic and social problems.
In your final year you complete an internship or career development opportunity to prepare you for the workforce. An Advanced Analysis major is also available.
The program totals 144 units and runs full time over three years at the Adelaide City Campus, preparing you for a career in the private sector, not-for-profit organisations or government.
