About This Course

Get the skills, experience and confidence you need to make a real impact as a qualified teacher from your first day with La Trobe's accredited Bachelor of Education.

Offered at every campus in Victoria, our flexible degree lets you explore your options before deciding what you'll teach – early childhood and primary, primary, or secondary – at the end of your first year. You'll learn how to manage classrooms, design class plans and guide students by spending at least 80 days in schools and education centres across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.

General Requirements

Domestic students:

Recent secondary education (Year 12)

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL. Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in one of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics

HSC: One of English Standard, English Advanced (Band 3), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4). Any 2 units of Mathematics.

Higher education, VET and work/life experience applicants

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Additional selection information

All applicants will complete a situation judgement test to support selection into teaching programs. This is a requirement for initial teacher training courses in Victoria and aims to assess an applicants personal and professional attributes. You can either register to sit the online CASPer Test or the La Trobe University School of Education Aptitude for Teaching Assessment (AFTA). You can register for the AFTA online test for free.
Applicants who have undertaken studies in a language other than English must demonstrate that they have achieved the required minimum scores in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic) or equivalent. Refer to Language requirements for further information.

International students:
