The course requires effective verbal, aural, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Verbal communication in English is the primary medium in educational settings. Non-verbal communication must be respectful, clear, attentive, empathetic, honest, and non-judgmental. Aural competence is required to effectively access course content and respond to demands of professional placements. Written communication in English is required to access course content and participate in professional and fieldwork placements, including constructing assignments, reports, children's profiles, lesson materials, and curriculum plans.

This includes conceptualising and using appropriate knowledge in response to academic assessment items, and identifying and applying knowledge of policy and procedures during professional and field experience settings. Graduates of accredited courses must meet the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers requirements.
