In fourth year, Pre-Service Teachers have the opportunity to choose specialised units from the following available unit sets: Arts, Catholic Studies, Leading for Engagement in Early Childhood, and Special Education. Students who are interested in units that span these specialisations may choose them, however, no specialisation will be recorded on the academic transcript.
Yes, final year Pre-Service Teachers can apply for a place in the internship program in either a school or early learning setting. The Early Childhood Internship is worth 60 credit points and equips Pre-Service Teachers with the mastery and knowledge needed in professional practice.
International students must attain an IELTS Academic with an average level of 7.5 or more across the four components of listening, speaking, reading and writing; no score below level 7.0 in any of these components; and a score of 8.0 or more in the components of speaking and listening. Applicants who have completed secondary education, bachelor degree or master degree studies in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA are not required to provide an IELTS Academic test.
Students are required to complete 480 credit points. This consists of 26 core units (a total of 405 credit points) and either a supplementary, specialisation or elective pathway for the remaining credits (to a total of 480 for course completion). The supplementary pathway includes an Early Childhood Internship (60 credit points) or a specialisation pathway.
The course is available at the Joondalup Campus, South West Campus, and online (including Sri Lanka Online). For domestic students, the estimated first year indicative fee is AUD $4,750 (Commonwealth supported). For international students, the estimated first year indicative fee is AUD $37,700. The course is 4 years full-time or part-time equivalent.
