About This Course

As a primary school teacher, you will be vital to a student's learning process. You will guide and develop their skills through the various key learning systems of education during their early years at school. In this course you will learn about the school curriculum, contemporary approaches to issues in education, such as inclusivity, child and adolescent development, classroom management and student wellbeing, improving the teaching-learning relationship in the classroom, First Nations education, theory and practice on teaching and learning, developing an informed, evidence-based approach to learning and teaching in primary settings. You can study a Bachelor of Education Primary online or on campus, part-time or full-time. Should you choose to study online, you'll complete your placements close to home. When you graduate, your levels of personal literacy and numeracy will be broadly equivalent to the top 30% of the population.

Students must meet university and State/Territory pre-placement requirements before commencing professional placements.
Upon graduating, students must meet other eligibility criteria such as the National Literacy and Numeracy test for Initial Teacher Education as per Teacher Registration Requirement, English proficiency and suitability to teach.
Commonwealth Supported places are available to students who are an Australian citizen who will complete some of the course while resident in Australia, a New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent visa holder, or an eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder who studies the entire course while living in Australia.
Credit transfer arrangements are available to students with completed Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree qualifications in the same field or discipline, subject to meeting criteria.

How many days of professional experience are required to complete the Bachelor of Education Primary?

To complete the Bachelor of Education Primary, you are required to undertake a minimum of 80 days of professional experience. The Professional Experience units must be undertaken in the following sequence: EPR220, EPR330, EPR401. You must also provide proof that you have met all university and State/Territory pre-placement requirements before commencing professional placements.

Is this degree recognised for teacher registration across Australia?

Yes. This course has been accredited through the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB NT) and is consistent with the standards established by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) for the accreditation of Initial Teacher Education Programs (ITE) in Australia. Upon graduating, you will be eligible to register as a teacher across all Australian State and Territory jurisdictions, subject to meeting other eligibility criteria such as the National Literacy and Numeracy test for Initial Teacher Education, English proficiency and suitability to teach.

Yes, you can study the Bachelor of Education Primary online or on campus, part-time or full-time. Should you choose to study online, you'll complete your placements close to home. Online intakes are available in Semester 1 and Semester 2.

What are the specialist elective options available in this course?

The course offers two specialist elective areas. In Humanities and Social Sciences, you can choose from Environmental Issues (ENV103), Colonising Australia (IAS131), and Introduction to International Relations (IAS133). In Health and Physical Education, you can choose from Introduction to Health Promotion (HSC132), Health, Exercise and Sport Psychology (SPE206), and Motor Control and Learning (SPE210). You must select 3 units totalling 30 credit points from ONE of these areas.

What are the annual tuition fees for international students?

The annual tuition fee for full-time study in 2026 is AUD $31,432.00, which equates to $3,929.00 per 10 credit point unit (0.125 EFTSL). These fees are subject to increases annually, effective at the start of each calendar year. CDU also offers a number of scholarships to international students to assist with the cost of study.
