About This Course

Whether you're straight from school or have other experience under your belt, Eastern's Bachelor Education (Primary) will equip you to make a quantifiable, significant difference to young people by becoming a teacher. Throughout your study, you'll engage with Christian ideas through a core of theological units which challenge, broaden and connect your faith with your teaching vocation. Requirements

All applicants will be required to meet Eastern's General Entry Requirements.
Current or Recent Year 12 – ATAR Based Admission: Minimum ATAR required for consideration to enter in next intake 70 or equivalent in the International Baccalaureate, VCE VM (Victorian Certificate of Education – Vocational Major) or international studies.
Special Consideration: Recent year 12 graduates who did not attain 70 but whose study was affected by external factors may be admitted.
VET Study: Students must have successfully completed a Certificate IV or above.
Higher Education Study: Students with previous higher education study may be admitted. The applicant must provide evidence that the qualifications held are recent and relevant and demonstrate English competency to satisfactorily complete the Bachelor of Education Primary.
Work and Life Experience: Require secondary studies demonstrating an ATAR (or equivalent) of 70 or above or Recognition of Prior Learning at a level equivalent to Certificate IV or higher.
Applicants may also choose to complete Eastern College Australia's Diploma of Arts which may give up to one year's advanced standing into the Bachelor of Education.
Interview: All applicants will be interviewed as part of the application process and assessed as to their suitability for entering the teaching profession.
Casper Test: As a part of the application process you are required to complete the Casper test two weeks before your interview.
English Language Requirements: Applicants must meet the English language requirements.
Working With Children Check (WWCC): All students will be required to complete a WWCC prior to commencing their professional experience.
LANTITE: Students must complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) as part of their studies, or alternatively have recognition of First Nations language proficiency. LANTITE should be attempted in the first year of your studies, and must be completed before your final placement.

Career Opportunities

Graduates will be able to apply for provisional registration as a teacher in Australia and overseas. Graduates may find employment in schools as well as many other environments. Graduates may also continue to postgraduate studies in education and a variety of related fields. All primary and secondary education specialisations are accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) using the national accreditation standards. This means that these qualifications will be accepted for school teacher registration in Victoria and all other Australian states and territories.

Is this degree accredited, and will it allow me to teach in other Australian states?

Yes. All primary and secondary education specialisations are accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) using the national accreditation standards. This means that these qualifications will be accepted for school teacher registration in Victoria and all other Australian states and territories, and graduates will be able to apply for provisional registration as a teacher in Australia and overseas.

How much professional experience (teaching practice) is required?

Students must complete integrated professional experience units totalling 90 days of satisfactory teaching practice. They must successfully complete Eastern College Australia's Teaching Performance Assessment (A3TPA). Students are also required to complete professional experience orientation provided by the School of Education prior to undertaking any professional experience.

What is the LANTITE and when do I need to complete it?

The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is an additional government requirement that students must complete as part of their studies. It should be attempted in the first year of your studies and must be completed before your final placement. Alternatively, recognition of First Nations language proficiency by the relevant cultural authority or a formal qualification in an Australian First Nations language is an acceptable alternative standard in lieu of all LANTITE requirements.

What majors and minors can I choose from in this degree?

Students complete 6 units in one of the following majors: English, History, Humanities, or Mathematics. They also complete 3 units in one of the following minors: English, History, or Mathematics. Additionally, students complete 2 units in one of the following specialisations: Specialisation 1 (English Focus) or Specialisation 2 (Mathematics Focus).

Is there financial support available during my professional experience placements?

Yes. The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) provides eligible students with $331.65 per week from 1 July 2025 to help cover the costs of mandatory placements. Education students at Eastern College Australia may qualify for this support during their teaching rounds.
