Bachelor of Education (Secondary)

Domestic students

• An applicant must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement and meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements. In addition, applicants in Victoria are required to demonstrate suitability for teaching.
• To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) 'All Points to Teaching' program, an applicant must meet the employment-based criteria for that program in addition to the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) course entry requirements.
• To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at Year 12 level or equivalent:
  • New South Wales: Prerequisites: Nil. Assumed knowledge: a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English. To study a major or minor in Mathematics: Mathematics Advanced or Mathematics Extension 1 or 2. Note: this course is structured to allow applicants to meet the three Band 5 entry requirements within the degree program by including a full year of discipline studies before applicants study how to teach.
  • Queensland: Prerequisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C); General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C). Assumed knowledge: to study a major or minor in Mathematics: Mathematical Methods C.
  • Victoria: Prerequisites: English: Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English; Mathematics: Units 1 and 2 - satisfactory completion of two units (any study combination) of General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics, OR Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics. To study a major or minor in Mathematics: Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods.
• Alternatively, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants may be selected following an interview with the Course Adviser and staff of the campus Indigenous Higher Education Unit. They should have a minimum of three years' work experience, or completion of Year 12 or equivalent, or demonstrated relevant tertiary study skills or successful completion of a Tertiary Communication Skills program.
• Indicative ATAR: 65.00 (Brisbane), 68.00 (Canberra), 70.00 (Melbourne), 67.00 (Strathfield).
• Applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above are assigned a new selection rank reflecting study level, duration and grade point average, and may be eligible for credit or recognition of prior learning.
• ACU also assesses applicants on prior VET study, and on work and life experience.

International students

• International applicants need the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 Certificate and must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, including the English Language Proficiency requirements. International students completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (either outside or in Australia), an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 must apply for admission through their local Tertiary Admission Centre and are assessed on their performance in those studies (ATAR or equivalent). Apart from this, international applicants meet the same academic prerequisites as domestic applicants. ACU does not publish a course-specific English test score for this course, so international applicants must meet ACU's English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
