Bachelor of Educational Studies

The Bachelor of Educational Studies (BEdSt) is an undergraduate degree offered by Australian Catholic University with a minimum duration of three years full-time or the equivalent part-time. It carries 240 credit points and is approved for delivery at ACU's Ballarat, Blacktown, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, North Sydney and Strathfield campuses.

To qualify for the award a student completes 240 credit points made up of three parts: 210 credit points of general education units drawn from any undergraduate Initial Teacher Education course, 10 credit points from a community engagement unit, and 20 credit points from ACU's Core Curriculum. The Initial Teacher Education courses a student may draw general education units from are the Bachelor of Education (Primary), the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Away from Base), the 320 and 360 credit point versions of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary), the 320 and 360 credit point versions of the Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary), the Bachelor of Education (Secondary), the Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts (Design Innovation and Technologies), and the Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Exercise Science. Within that 210 credit points, a maximum of 30 credit points of 100-level units may be included and a minimum of 40 credit points of 300-level units must be included.

The community engagement requirement is met through EDES206 Social Justice and Community Engagement for Educators. Core Curriculum options include Being Human, Ethics and the Good Life, Making Sense: Practical Reasoning for Life and Career, Revolutionary Values: Christianity in History, People Matter: Catholic Social Thought, Ecology and Justice, and Conflict, Violence and Peace-making.
