About This Course

This double degree will give you the ideal skill set for energy and mining industries. In addition to expertise in civil and construction engineering, you'll gain detailed knowledge of mining engineering, learning aspects of surface and underground mining, materials handling and mining methods. Building upon your civil and construction engineering skills, you'll complete one year of your course at Curtin Kalgoorlie (typically your fourth year). Here, you'll gain an understanding of mining industry operations – including management of people and resources, health and safety, and environmental conservation. Through work experience or technical and non-technical activities, you'll have substantial exposure to professional engineering practice. You'll graduate with comprehensive skills in civil, construction and mining engineering for in-demand industry careers.

General Requirements

Guaranteed ATAR/Selection rank: 80
Prerequisite subject (Essential): Mathematics Methods ATAR
Prerequisite subject (Essential): At least one of Chemistry ATAR, Physics ATAR, or Engineering Studies ATAR
Desirable subject: Mathematics Specialist ATAR
Must meet Curtin's English language requirements (see IELTS table on English language requirements page)
Curtin course switcher: Attained an ATAR of 80 or above, OR completed 200 credit points in the Indigenous Pre-Science and Engineering Enabling Course, OR completed a total 100 credit points with at least 75 credit points completed in the semester prior to course switching in the Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary Science) or Bachelor of Information Technology; plus met Mathematics Methods ATAR prerequisite and one of Chemistry ATAR, Physics ATAR, or Engineering Studies ATAR; and achieved Good Standing
Higher education course switcher: Minimum ATAR/Selection Rank of 80, met Mathematics Methods ATAR prerequisite and one of Chemistry ATAR, Physics ATAR, or Engineering Studies ATAR, and achieved Good Standing
VET/TAFE pathway: Advanced Diploma of Engineering (2 years) OR Curtin College Diploma of Engineering, plus met subject prerequisites
STAT is not accepted as an entry pathway but may be used to demonstrate English language proficiency
The Mathematics Methods ATAR prerequisite can be met with Curtin units MATH1014 Foundations of Calculus or MATH1016 Calculus 1
The Chemistry ATAR prerequisite can be met with Curtin units CHEM1003 Introduction to Chemistry and CHEM1001 Biological Chemistry
The Physics ATAR prerequisite can be met with Curtin unit PHYS1006 Foundation of Physics
