Engineering managers are involved in large-scale capital investment projects as well as infrastructure policy and planning that require high level business skills. The degree will prepare you to operate in a complex financial system - something often associated with large engineering projects. Your bachelor's degree in civil and infrastructure engineering will prepare you for a career as a project manager, design engineer, construction manager, environmental engineer, engineering asset manager, or engineering specialist. Your bachelor's degree in business will enable you to advance to middle and senior management positions or consultant positions in commercial, industrial and not-for-profit organisations. You can select from one of 13 majors to tailor your business degree to your interests and career aspirations. The available business majors are: Blockchain Enabled Business, Business and Technology, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Financial Planning, Global Business, Innovation and Enterprise, Logistics and Supply Chain, Management and Change, Marketing, People and Organisation, and Social Impact. There are also more than 30 minors to choose from.
Work-integrated learning opportunities include the Engineers Without Borders Challenge – a humanitarian-focused subject – industry-sponsored design projects, and work placements in Australia and overseas. You also have the opportunity to complete an Engineers Without Borders elective to experience humanitarian engineering first-hand. RMIT also has agreements with universities in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia on civil and infrastructure engineering student exchange programs, and optional tours are organised to Paris to study practical applications related to sustainable cities of the future.
In years 3, 4 and 5, engineering studies cover construction management, civil construction, geotechnical engineering, steel structures, transport engineering, water resources, sustainable infrastructure design, engineering economics and infrastructure planning. Engineering Option subjects available for specialisation include: Smart Construction, Geomechanics, Humanitarian Innovation, and Sustainable Water Management. In your final year, you will conduct an engineering research capstone project that can be analytical, experimental, design or computational in nature.
The indicative ATAR entry score for domestic students is 83.70. Entry is competitive and eligible applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on academic achievement plus any adjustment factors. You may be eligible to receive adjustment factors including equity access schemes and/or subject adjustments to a maximum of 28 aggregate adjustment points. For example, a study score of 25 in Information Technology, Mathematics, or any Science subject equals 2 aggregate points per study, with an overall maximum of 8 points from subject adjustments.
