About This Course

The Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (Honours) provides a solid grounding in the knowledge, principles, and technical and professional skills required to practise as a qualified electrical and electronic engineer.
First year develops a strong general foundation in engineering principles before you move into electrical and electronic-focused courses in second year. Courses build advanced practical ability and understanding of working safely with diverse electrical circuits, digital systems, control systems, electrical machines and power systems.
Because first year is common across engineering, you can change specialisation and receive credit for completed courses.
You apply your skills on real-world projects with up to 12 weeks in a professional industry placement, and in your final year complete a major honours research project and an industry-focused project.
Adelaide University frames the degree around the reach of electrical engineering across modern life — from medical devices and smartphones to the grids that power cities — and rising demand as industries adopt AI and digital technologies.
The program totals 192 units — 162 units of program core, 12 units of work integrated learning and up to 18 units of discipline courses or program electives — over four years across the Adelaide City and Mawson Lakes campuses, with February and July intakes.

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
• Secondary education (Year 12) — Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
• Vocational Education and Training (VET) — Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.
• Higher education study — Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program.
• Work and life experience — Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR Qualify for special entry.
