Yes, this major includes a mandatory 450-hour industrial placement as a completion requirement for Engineers Australia accreditation as a professional engineer. At the end of your third year, you will complete 12 weeks of work placement, so you emerge with real-world experience.

The Civil, Electrical, and Robotics and Mechatronics programs at Western Sydney University are fully accredited by Engineers Australia. The Sustainability Engineering major also includes requirements aligned with Engineers Australia accreditation as a professional engineer, including the mandatory 450-hour industrial placement.

Students can engage in hands-on, real-life projects exploring solutions that integrate technical, technological (IoT), social, cultural, geographical, regulatory and ethical factors. Students can also participate in the Solar Car Project, helping design and build a sustainable electrical vehicle to compete in the World Solar Car Challenge, and join the Unlimited Robotics Club.
