Yes, this major includes a mandatory 450-hour industrial placement as a completion requirement for Engineers Australia accreditation as a professional engineer. At the end of your third year, you will complete 12 weeks of work placement, so you emerge with real-world experience.
The Civil, Electrical, and Robotics and Mechatronics programs at Western Sydney University are fully accredited by Engineers Australia. The Sustainability Engineering major also includes requirements aligned with Engineers Australia accreditation as a professional engineer, including the mandatory 450-hour industrial placement.
The program is offered at the Parramatta City Campus (UAC code 722563) and the Penrith Campus (UAC code 722594).
The indicative annual fee for domestic students starts from $11,885. This is for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), which is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government. Students can engage in hands-on, real-life projects exploring solutions that integrate technical, technological (IoT), social, cultural, geographical, regulatory and ethical factors. Facilities include a Fab Lab with woodworking and metal workshops, laser cutting, CNC routers and fabrication equipment. Students can also participate in the Solar Car Project, helping design and build a sustainable electrical vehicle to compete in the World Solar Car Challenge, and join the Unlimited Robotics Club.
