Students can choose from five different Engineering majors: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronic Systems and Internet of Things (IoT) Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The Electronic Systems and Internet of Things major is only available at the Cairns campus, while all other majors are only available at the Townsville campus.
The course takes 5 years to complete on a full-time basis, or up to 10 years on a part-time basis.
Yes, students participate in 12 weeks of industry-based practical placement within an engineering environment, and may even be paid for their work. The Information Technology component also includes internships with local businesses and organisations to gain real-life industry experience.
The minimum ATAR required is 70. Recommended knowledge includes English (Units 3/4, C) and Mathematical Methods (Units 3/4, C). Applicants with an ATAR of 73 and above are guaranteed entry provided they meet subject prerequisites, while those with an ATAR of 90 and above are guaranteed entry with all subject prerequisites waived. Alternate pathways are also available for students who cannot fulfil the standard requirements.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Bachelor of Information Technology is offered at both JCU Townsville and JCU Cairns campuses. Both campuses have intake dates in January and September.
