The double degree takes 5.5 years to complete as a full-time student, or a part-time equivalent. UOW notes that a double degree provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately.
Yes. Graduates of the Bachelor of Mathematics are eligible to apply for individual accreditation with the Australian Mathematical Society. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and its specialisations are professionally accredited by Engineers Australia. Accreditation is outcomes-based, and some specialisations may hold provisional accreditation if they have not yet produced a sufficient number of graduates.
The minimum Selection Rank for guaranteed entry is 80 (ATAR-SR: 80 / IBAS: 30.25). Your Selection Rank is your ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any eligible adjustment factors, which may be based on subjects studied, school location, or equity and access schemes.
Yes. This course contains a total of 420 hours of compulsory work-based placements, completed over 12 weeks (at 35 hours per week) throughout the degree. This provides valuable practical training in an industry setting.
The minimum prerequisite is the equivalent of NSW HSC Mathematics Standard 2 (minimum Band 2). Assumed knowledge includes any two units of NSW HSC English and NSW HSC Mathematics Advanced, or equivalent. Recommended studies include NSW HSC Mathematics Extension 1, Engineering Studies, Physics, and Chemistry (though Chemistry is not necessary for several engineering majors including Biomedical, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Computer and Autonomous Systems, and Telecommunications Engineering and Internet of Things). Students who have not completed Chemistry and/or Physics are strongly recommended to enrol in bridging courses offered in February.
