The HDR Academic Calendar comprises four terms. For 2026, new enrolments commence on: 3 November 2025 (Summer Term, starting 15 December 2025), 5 January 2026 (Term 1, starting 16 February 2026), 20 April 2026 (Term 2, starting 1 June 2026), and 3 August 2026 (Term 3, starting 14 September 2026). New candidates may enrol up to one month before the term start date.
UNSW has three scholarship application rounds per year. For Term 2 or 3 2026, the 2025 November Release closed on 5 September 2025 with offers released from 21 November–5 December. For Term 1 2027, the 2026 July Release closed on 17 April 2026 with offers from 24 July 2026. For Term 2 or 3 2027, the 2026 November Release closes 14 August 2026, midnight Australian time, with offers from 19 November 2026. If you have alternative funding, you must submit your application at least eight (8) weeks before an offer of admission is required.
You must prepare the supporting documentation outlined in the Document Submission Guidelines, which includes all mandatory supporting documents such as satisfactory evidence of having met the UNSW English language requirements. International applicants must also complete the Financial Declaration Form. Documents in a language other than English must be translated by an accredited translator. Evidence of funding should be provided in the form of cash deposits such as bank statements from the last 6 months.
Once your application has come through to the student system, you'll receive an email confirmation with a UNSW Student ID. You can track your application in your UNSW Apply Online account and upload any documents you may have missed. Applications may take around a week to come through Apply Online to the student system. Only once mandatory documents have been accepted will your application be sent to your School for processing. If you meet the requirements, you will receive either a Conditional Offer or an Unconditional Offer.
Higher Degree Research (HDR) applicants can request to defer for up to one year after the initial offer term. UNSW HDR Scholarship offers may be able to be deferred on a case by case basis (check your scholarship letter for details). Deferrals are only approved where conditions are met, including continuing to meet UNSW entry requirements, and availability of supervision and resources. If you have a conditional offer, email domestic.grs@unsw.edu.au or international.grs@unsw.edu.au indicating the new term you wish to start in. If you have an unconditional offer, log in to Accept Online.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
