Common Questions
UNSW has three scholarship application rounds per year. For Term 2 or 3 2026, the 2025 November Release closed on 5 September 2025 with offers released from 21 November – 5 December. For Term 1 2027, the 2026 July Release closed on 17 April 2026 with offers released from 24 July 2026. For Term 2 or 3 2027, the 2026 November Release closes 14 August 2026 (midnight Australian time) with offers released from 19 November 2026.
All new candidates should enrol in their degree by the term start date. New candidates may enrol up to one month before the term start date. If you are unable to commence by the term start date, you may enrol by the term census date, however your candidature 'clock' starts ticking from the term start date. You cannot enrol after the census date has passed, and if unable to enrol by the census date, you can request deferral to the following term.
You need to prepare the supporting documentation outlined in the Document Submission Guidelines. All mandatory supporting documents are required by the application deadline, including satisfactory evidence of having met the UNSW English language requirements. International applicants must also complete the Financial Declaration Form and, if required, submit evidence of your capacity to fund all living costs, fees and other associated costs. Documents in a language other than English must be translated by an accredited translator before submission to UNSW.
Higher Degree Research (HDR) applicants can request to defer for up to one year after the initial offer term. UNSW HDR Scholarship offers may be able to be deferred on a case by case basis (check your scholarship letter for details). Deferrals are only approved where conditions are met, including continuing to meet UNSW entry requirements, and availability of supervision and resources. If you have a conditional offer, email domestic.grs@unsw.edu.au or international.grs@unsw.edu.au indicating the new term you wish to start in; if you have an unconditional offer, log in to Accept Online.
Finding a supervisor with compatible research interests and working styles is critical to your success as a Higher Degree Research candidate. Most Faculties require applicants to contact potential supervisors before applying. You can search for supervisors and research projects in your area. If you would like to express your interest in a research project advertised on the UNSW website, email the primary supervisor with a copy of your CV and academic transcript(s). Once you have found a supervisor, you will have a pre-admission interview to discuss your proposed research project and whether appropriate resources will be available.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
