Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science (Honours) is for graduates who want to explore and analyse a specialist area of exercise science and human performance, or related topics, from both a theoretical and professional perspective, develop research skills, and conduct a creative and analytical study in the form of a thesis. In an increasingly competitive job market, an honours degree gives you an edge over candidates who have only an undergraduate degree. The course takes one year full-time or two years part-time and requires 80 credit points, made up of 30 credit points of coursework units and 50 credit points of thesis units. Coursework covers research methods in biomedical and health sciences research, communicating research in biomedical and health sciences, and either qualitative research methods in health science or statistics for biomedical and health sciences research. The thesis is prepared under the guidance of a supervisor appointed by the School Committee on the advice of the Head of School. On completion, the candidate submits a written thesis based on work carried out during the period of study and research, with examination and assessment congruent with the current Faculty Policy Pertaining to Students Undertaking Honours. Students are also required to attend and participate in graduate seminars organised by the School, with progress closely monitored by each student's research supervisor. The course is offered at ACU's Blacktown, Brisbane, Melbourne and Strathfield campuses, and honours scholarships are available to suitably qualified candidates. Graduates may be eligible to progress to a postgraduate coursework degree in exercise science, or to undertake a Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy.
