The course requires a total of 500 hours of compulsory work placement completed over the four years. Of these, 140 hours must be completed with apparently healthy individuals in a community, sports, scientific, or commercial exercise setting during the first three years. The remaining 360 hours of compulsory clinical placement is completed with people who have pathology or injury in the Spring session of the fourth year, as part of the Clinical Practicum subject.
Yes, the course at the Wollongong campus has accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Graduates of the Bachelor of Exercise Science and Rehabilitation are eligible to apply for accreditation as both Exercise Physiologists and Exercise Scientists with ESSA. The Liverpool campus offering (from 2026) is based on the accredited Wollongong course, with ESSA accreditation for Liverpool campus pending. It is highly recommended that all graduates apply for accreditation with ESSA within 2 years of completing their degree.
The minimum score for guaranteed entry is a Selection Rank of 90. Your Selection Rank is your ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any adjustments you are eligible to receive. The International Baccalaureate admissions score (IBAS) equivalent is 35.25. Adjustments may be applied based on factors such as the subjects you are studying, the location of your school, or your eligibility for equity and access schemes.
Throughout the degree, you will study subjects including anatomy, physiology, clinical exercise physiology, exercise prescription, biomechanics, and neuromechanics. These core subjects are designed to deepen your understanding of how exercise affects the body, and how to use evidence-based practices and a person-centred approach to prescribe exercise safely and effectively.
Yes. Before commencing a placement within a NSW Health facility, students must meet NSW Health's mandatory requirements for a national criminal record check (conducted by the NSW Police and/or the Australian Federal Police), comply with NSW Health's code of conduct, and meet immunisation/vaccination requirements. The cost of the criminal record check is the student's responsibility. Details of these and other pre-placement requirements can be found on the UOW Health Placements site.
