Common Questions
The Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) Practicum Standards specify that for accreditation as an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES), students need to complete a minimum total of 140 hours of practicum. This must include at least 80 hours of activities to demonstrate competence in exercise assessment, prescription and delivery, and up to 60 hours of any other activities within the scope of practice of an AES. No more than 15 hours can be undertaken in a simulated learning environment. Placements take place with VU partner organisations such as Western Bulldogs Football Club, Melbourne Storm or Maribyrnong College.
This course is accredited by Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA). Successful completion of this course will make you eligible to apply for membership of ESSA as an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES).
For eligible students, this course is offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), which is subsidised by the government. The indicative fee for a full-time student in 2026 is AU$9,537 per year. This fee is a guide only, based on a typical full-time study load, and does not include materials such as textbooks or the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens will qualify for a CSP place.
VU's world-class sport and learning precinct at the Footscray Park Campus features the most advanced sport and exercise technology available. Facilities include exercise physiology labs, altitude hotel, biomechanics labs, motor learning and skilled performance labs, heat chambers, motor control and biofeedback labs, and integrated teaching and learning facilities. The Victoria University Community Sports Stadium, a joint initiative with the Western Bulldogs, is also available.
Yes, there are several guaranteed entry pathways. From VU courses, completion of the Diploma of Remedial Massage or International Foundations at VU guarantees entry. From other institutions, completion of the Diploma of Sport from SEDA Group, Australia also guarantees entry. In some cases, you may also receive credit for previous study, reducing the time it takes to complete the course.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
