The Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) Practicum Standards require students to complete a minimum total of 140 hours of practicum, including at least 80 hours of activities demonstrating competence in exercise assessment, prescription and delivery, and up to 60 hours of any other activities within the scope of practice of an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES). Placements and cadetships take place with VU partner organisations such as Western Bulldogs Football Club, Melbourne Storm or Maribyrnong College.

You will have access to the sport and exercise infrastructure and facilities at Victoria University's Footscray Park Campus, described as the most comprehensive range of sport and exercise science facilities in the southern hemisphere. Facilities include exercise physiology labs, an altitude hotel, biomechanics labs, motor learning and skilled performance labs, heat chambers, motor control and biofeedback labs, and integrated teaching and learning facilities. The Institute for Health & Sport (IHES) features the most advanced sport and exercise technology available and is used by students, researchers, professional sports teams and community organisations.
This course is offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) for eligible students (Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens), with indicative fees of AU$17,399 per year for a full-time student in 2026. This fee is a guide only and does not include materials such as textbooks or the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). You may be able to get a HELP loan to pay for your studies, which is repaid through the tax system once you earn above the compulsory repayment threshold. VU also awards hundreds of scholarships worth millions of dollars combined each year to support students.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
