This fashion design course gives you hands-on experience through industry-focused design briefs and practical studio learning; from concept to garment, you'll develop skills across the full fashion design process in collaborative and creative learning environments. Students learn in purpose-built fashion facilities at the Chadstone campus, including manufacturing rooms, patternmaking studios, and computer laboratories designed to reflect real industry environments, using industry-standard equipment such as industrial sewing machines, cutting and drafting tables, Adobe Creative Cloud, Gerber patternmaking technologies, and digital patternmaking software. The course also explores sustainability and ethical fashion practices through capstone projects, work-integrated learning, and industry-based assessments, with opportunities to showcase work at Melbourne Fashion Week's annual Student Runway.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic Students:

Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years): applicants with recent secondary education are those whose eligibility is based on the completion of VCE (or equivalent) within the current year or the previous two years.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) Study: applicants who have completed an Australian VET Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline will be considered for entry. Applicants who have successfully completed the Certificate II in Apparel, Fashion and Textile and/or Certificate IV in Apparel and Fashion, or an equivalent qualification, may be eligible for admission without advanced standing; those who completed the Certificate IV in Apparel and Fashion at Holmesglen may be eligible for advanced standing with credit, assessed case-by-case with the course leader.
Higher Education Study: applicants who have previously commenced or completed subjects within a higher education course are encouraged to apply. Those transferring from another provider may apply for advanced standing, assessed individually with credit granted where equivalency can be demonstrated.
Work and Life Experience: applicants with relevant work and life experience who completed secondary education more than two years prior, and have not undertaken VET or higher education study since, are encouraged to apply. Relevant experience may include mature age entry, employment or professional experience, community involvement, or other life experience demonstrating a minimum of five years' work experience in the fashion/textiles industry or a related occupation.
Interview and Portfolio Requirements: all applicants are required to have an interview with an academic staff member.
Prior to enrolment, learners must also complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and provide certified copies of relevant qualifications.

International Students:

Must be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of the course.
IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic) or equivalent English language test.
Successful completion of VCE Year 12, or overseas equivalent.
Completion of an Australian VET Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; or partial/completed higher education study at a recognised university or non-university higher education provider.
All applications are assessed on an individual basis in accordance with Holmesglen's admissions policies.
