Common Questions
Flinders University is one of the only places you can learn to shoot on 16mm film, which produces a unique aesthetic — think vintage, retro and period. In your third year, you'll have the opportunity to create a 16mm student-led short film as part of your final major project. You'll also be taught by filmmakers and passionate teachers who are actively involved in the industry and have decades of experience in the field.
Domestic students can gain guaranteed entry with an ATAR of 65.00. Alternative entry options include a STAT score of 150.0, a GPA of 4.0, or a TAFE/VET Certificate IV or above. A pathway via the Arts Diploma is also available. All applicants must submit a portfolio, CV, interview and written statement as prerequisites. There is no assumed knowledge required.
After your first year, you can focus on a specialisation by choosing from available minors. These include Visual Effects (covering concept art, animation, CGI foundations, motion capture, virtual production and digital entertainment production), Sound Production (covering music and sound production techniques, spatial and immersive sound design, and music industry enterprise), and Performance (a hands-on introduction to acting, writing for theatre, and leading collaborative arts projects).
Graduates can pursue a range of careers in the screen industry, including film producer (typical salary $95K in Australia), cinematographer/director of photography (typical salary $82K in Australia), film and television crew, advertising coordinator, and film programmer. There are approximately 583 job opportunities in Australia as of 2025. You will also graduate with a portfolio of creative work to show future employers and creative collaborators.
For 2026, the annual indicative fee for domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is $16,417. For full fee-paying (FFP) domestic students, the fee is $35,500 per year. International students should check the international fees listed separately. The course runs for 3 years full-time.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
