About This Course

The Bachelor of Fine Art is a studio-based degree with a strong focus on contemporary fine art. At Monash, the studio is a shared space for experimentation, collaboration and learning where students are introduced to a range of contemporary art practices and interdisciplinary methodologies, taught by nationally and internationally recognised practicing artists. Students experiment across mediums such as painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, glass, sculpture, jewellery and digital fabrication, graduating with a critically-informed studio practice, a unique body of work exhibited at the MADA Now graduate exhibition, and the confidence and knowledge to succeed as a professional artist.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

International:

Minimum age: at least 17 years old at the time of enrolment.
Academic: for the Fine Art specialisation, entry is based on "successful completion" of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) rather than a fixed numeric ATAR — final ranking is based on folio presentation plus ATAR (or equivalent).
English entry requirements (Level A): overall score 6.5 for IELTS (Academic), with minimum band scores: Listening 6.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.0 (or equivalent approved English test scores).
Prerequisite subjects: English only (VCE Units 3&4 score 25 for EAL or Other, or IB equivalents); no Mathematics or Science prerequisite.
Additional requirement (Fine Art specialisation only): applicants must register for and complete a folio presentation (see Monash Art, Design and Architecture application page); no additional requirement applies to the Art History and Curating specialisation offered under this same course code.

Domestic:

Selection is not a fixed numeric ATAR cutoff; ranking is based on folio presentation plus ATAR (or equivalent) for the Fine Art specialisation.
Available Full Time or Part Time (6 years part time); international students are Full Time only, a visa condition.
