Common Questions
You can specialise in one of three creative streams: Animation & Moving Image (including sub-specialisations in animation, moving image, visual effects, sound, and 3D visualisation), Music (with pathways in creative practice, music pedagogy, or sonic arts), or Visual Arts (choosing at least two studio disciplines from drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and moving image). Your choice of specialisation determines which secondary school teaching subjects you will be accredited to teach upon graduation.
You will complete up to 80 days of supervised professional placement across at least two NSW secondary schools in your final two years. The first placement includes a one-day intensive orientation, online activities, and a four-week supervised work placement. The second placement is nine weeks long, with a gradual shift towards more autonomy, responsibility, and accountability. Both placements provide real-world experience and supportive feedback.
The degree is accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as an initial teaching qualification. Depending on your fine arts specialisation and education method courses chosen, you can be accredited to teach Visual Arts, Music, or Graphics and Multimedia Technology in secondary schools throughout Australia. The program is also widely accepted as a teaching qualification internationally.
For domestic students in 2026, the indicative first year full fee is $8,500 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $31,000 (Commonwealth Supported Place). For international students in 2026, the indicative first year full fee is $48,500 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $212,500. Fees are subject to annual review and may vary.
The degree comprises 192 Units of Credit (UOC) and is designed to take four years to complete full-time. It consists of 31 individual courses, with students typically completing eight courses per year. The program is divided into a Bachelor of Fine Arts component (96 UOC, including your fine arts specialisation) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) component (96 UOC, including 66 UOC of education core courses, 24 UOC of prescribed education method electives, and 6 UOC of a prescribed education elective). Note that the second teaching internship counts as two courses in one.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
